Most Legií

Most Legií - Legion Bridge

The original chain bridge was built in 1839–1841 and served until 1898.

The current stone bridge was built in 1898–1901 on the initiative of businessman Vojtěch Lanna, according to the project of architect Antonín Balšánek and engineer Jiří Soukup. The bridge consists of nine very flat arches of varying span; above Strělecký ostrov is a vault made of circular segments, the others have an elliptical shape. Granite blocks were used for the construction. There are always two towers on both sides, which were used to collect tolls in the early days of the bridge’s existence. The opening of the bridge took place on June 14, 1901 in the presence of Emperor Francis Joseph I.
